Description
Machine quilting has opened the door to much more elaborate pattern design. Much more design can be added in a fraction of the time traditional hand quilting has taken. One of the most time-consuming parts of machine quilting is making those important decisions as to which designs to use. This book will help you find those designs and use them effectively in your quilting.
Each quilt has its own flavor or voice – through its pattern, color, design, and feel. While listening to each quilt there are some basic rules of thumb that you may find helpful.
- Look for the patterns that are already in the quilts, such as applique design, patterns found in the fabric or in the piecing itself. Repeating these designs are often great ideas to be used in the quilting.
- While using a design in many different ways, try to limit the patterns to three or four. Variety adds interest so increase or decrease the size of your designs to compliment the quilt.
- A triangle pattern can be used in a square piece of fabric by using it twice back-to-back. For this reason, much of More Simply Continuous Quilting has been dedicated to patterns that can be used in triangles.
